Praluent is given as an injection just under the skin, by a pen already filled with the medicine, every two weeks or four weeks depending on the dose. With patience and practice, as you get used to it, injections with Praluent can become routine.

Tips

Before using Praluent think about what works for you:

  • What is going to be the best time of day for you?
  • Where is a comfortable and well-lit place?
  • What types of clothing will allow easy access when you need to inject?

Remember to inject yourself in a different place from the last time. This can help stop your skin getting sore and your injections becoming uncomfortable.

A calendar, a reminder on your mobile phone, or a diary can help you remember to inject your Praluent when it is due.

Keep the Praluent pen out of the sight and reach of children

Do not touch the yellow safety cover

Read all of the instructions carefully before using the Praluent pen

Do not use the pen if it has been dropped or damaged

Follow these instructions every time you use a Praluent pen

Do not use the pen if the blue cap is missing or not securely attached

Store unused pens in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C

Do not re-use a pen

Keep the pen in the outer carton in order to protect it from light

Do not shake the pen

Refer to the Patient Information Leaflet for detailed storage conditions

Do not freeze the pen

 

Safety information

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. A common side effect for Praluent is a reaction where the injection was given. This could include redness, itching, swelling, and pain/tenderness. Another common side effect are symptoms such as sore throat, running nose, sneezing, and itching (pruritus). For a full list of side effects, please read the patient information leaflet included in your pack and consult your doctor or nurse.
